Your skin tells a story.
Indian skin has a particularly complex one to tell.
With a diverse undertone, richness in melanin that constantly pendulates between dry winters and punishing summers, Indian skin has needs that are uniquely its own.
However, most skincare advice is designed for skin types and climates way past the Indian reality, routines that don’t stick, and concerns that keep coming back.
At Bodycraft Academy, one of India’s leading beauty academies, skincare is approached with the same depth and precision as any professional craft.
Here’s everything you need to know about building a routine that is designed for Indian skin.

What Makes Indian Skin Different
Indian skin typically sits higher on the Fitzpatrick scale, meaning higher melanin concentration. This offers some natural UV protection, but also makes skin significantly more prone to hyperpigmentation, uneven tone, and post-inflammatory marks that linger far longer than on lighter skin tones. Add the diversity of Indian climate zones and it becomes clear that a one-size-fits-all approach simply doesn’t hold up.
Common Skin Concerns for Indian Skin
- Hyperpigmentation and Uneven Tone – triggered by sun exposure, hormonal changes, and acne scarring; the most universal concern across Indian skin types
- Excess Oil and Acne – heat, humidity, and active sebaceous glands make oily and combination skin extremely common
- Sun Damage – prolonged unprotected exposure deepens pigmentation and accelerates ageing over time
- Dryness and Dehydration – often confused with each other, and frequently addressed with the wrong products
- Sensitivity and Reactivity – over-exfoliation and ingredient mismatches are increasingly common triggers

Understanding these concerns is the foundation.
At Bodycraft Academy, students in skincare courses and professional beauty courses learn to analyse skin at a clinical level: identifying concerns, underlying causes, and the right treatment pathways with professional precision.

Building Your Routine, Step by Step
1. Cleanse
Use a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser suited to your skin type – gel or foam for oily skin, cream or milk for dry or sensitive skin. Cleanse twice daily without over-stripping the skin’s natural barrier.
2. Tone
A hydrating toner with niacinamide, rose water, or hyaluronic acid restores pH post-cleanse and preps skin to absorb what comes next. Avoid alcohol-heavy formulas, which can be particularly drying on melanin-rich skin.
3. Treat
For Indian skin, the most effective actives are Vitamin C for brightening, niacinamide for oil control and tone evening, AHAs and BHAs for texture and acne, and retinol for cell turnover – introduced gradually and layered correctly.
4. Moisturise
Every skin type needs moisture. Gel-based formulas for oily skin, ceramide-rich creams for dry skin, and zonal application for combination skin. Skipping moisturiser because skin feels oily often worsens oil production over time.
5. SPF
Every Single Day Broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher is the single most effective step for Indian skin – preventing hyperpigmentation, slowing visible ageing, and protecting the skin barrier. Reapplication every two to three hours outdoors is equally essential.
6. Night Care
Evenings are for repair. A gentle cleanse, a targeted treatment serum, and a nourishing night cream give the skin everything it needs to recover overnight. This is also the best time to incorporate stronger formulae like retinol.

Bodycraft Academy’s professional skincare courses cover the skin’s natural repair cycle – helping students build night routines grounded in biology, not just trend.
